FIRST EUROPEAN TENT SPONSORS

WRTC 2014, Inc., host of the 2014 World Radiosport Team Championship competition, is pleased to announce the first two tent sponsors from Europe have stepped forward. The Contest Club of Finland and Contest University (CTU) Italy 2012 will each sponsor a station tent for the competition.

The WRTC Organizing Committee will provide each of the 59 competing teams with identical antennas, coax, towers, tents, tables, chairs, generators, and other site infrastructure. Funding for this equipment is assisted through tent sponsorships of $1,000 from clubs and other groups.

“Contest University Italy is very proud to sponsor a WRTC2014 tent,” said Stefano Brioschi, IK2QEI, one of the organizers of CTU Italy 2012 and a past WRTC participant. “With about 300 participants from all over Italy we are very happy to give this small contribution to the most important world radio event.”

Contest Club Finland was the organizer of WRTC 2002 and has a unique understanding of the technical, logistical, and financial challenges behind the scenes of a WRTC competition.

Europe has 27 of the 51 available WRTC qualifying positions plus the defending champions from Russia. Qualifying in Europe is divided into 6 regions with intense competition for each (see http://www.wrtc2014.org/competitors/qualification-standings/ ).

“The qualifying activity demonstrates the passion that European contesters have for WRTC,” said Doug Grant, Chairman of WRTC 2014. “It is very gratifying to receive first European sponsorship support from Finland and Italy. Other European clubs have expressed an interest and we look forward to their support.”

Clubs may sponsor multiple tents. The Northern California Contest Club, Potomac Valley Radio Club, Society of Midwest Contesters, and Yankee Clipper Contest Club have each sponsored two or more tents. A complete list of tent sponsors appears at http://www.wrtc2014.org/sponsors/tent-sponsors/ .

Sponsoring groups will have their name and logo displayed on the tent and in the WRTC materials. The sponsors of the tents of the top 3 teams will receive plaques to commemorate their participation.

In addition to club-based sponsorships, tents may also be dedicated to the memory of a highly-regarded contester who has become a Silent Key.

About WRTC 2014

The World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) is held every four years and consists of approximately 50 two-person teams of amateur radio operators from around the world competing in a test of operating skill. Unlike most on-the-air competitions, all stations are required to use identical antennas from the same geographic region, eliminating all variables except operating ability. Previous WRTCs have been held in Seattle (1990), San Francisco (1996), Slovenia (2000), Finland (2002), Brazil (2006), and Russia (2010).
