First licensed as a Novice in Arizona at age 12 as WN7FHD. Mentors were N5HV (SK) and N4AA. General class license at age 13 – WA7FHD. Extra class license at age 15 – WA7FHD/6 in Southern Cal. Moved to Hawaii at age 16. In 1970 became KH6HKM and then KH6ND in 1976.
Studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Hawaii. Employed by GTE Hawaiian Telephone, Leblanc Communications, AT&T, BAE Systems, International Towers Inc., and Tower Busters, from 1978-2014.
ARRL DX Contest World Combined trophy winner 1981, 1988, 1999, 2001, 2002. ARRL DX Contest World CW trophy winner 2002. 22 time ARRL DX Contest Continental winner SSB/CW 1979 – 2011. ARRL Sweepstakes – 11 time Pacific Division trophy winner, SSB/CW 1998-2011. Team member/leader across dozens of CQWW/CQ WPX Multi-operator efforts 1983-2013 KH6XX/KH7R/KH7X/PT5A. Expeditions: KH6ND/KH5 Palmyra and K5K Kingman Reef (2000). PT5A (2002). WP2Z (2003).
Oceania team leader for WRTC 2006 (PT5K). Qualified as Oceania team leader for WRTC 2010, but was unable to attend. Looking forward to the WRTC experience once again with the great anticipation of meeting and competing with some of the finest operators on the planet.
