Team: Oceania
Country: USA
Age: 49
Occupation: Airline Transport Pilot and officer, U.S. Air Force Reserve
Earned my Novice license in 1977 at the age of 13 while growing up on the island of Oahu. Sports, academics, hobbies (other than ham radio), and two simultaneous careers have consumed my time ever since, forcing me to predominately be a part-time contester through the years. I currently serve as an international airline transport pilot for a major U.S. global airline. Additionally, I continue a 25-year career as an officer in the Air Force Reserve with a background in tactical aviation, having flown F-16 and F-22 aircraft.
I attempt to participate in my favorite four contests annually, and through creative scheduling and the generosity of a few other avid hams, we are able to make that happen. I enjoy teaming with Dave, AL7DB in Homer, Alaska, and benefit from his extensive knowledge of antenna design and love of radio to operate from his spectacular QTH from a challenging KL7 environment. Additionally, I participate with the superb KH6YY team at Pupukea, as through their extensive and dedicated efforts, owner Alex, Mike (KH6ND), and Kimo (KH7U) maintain a world-class M/M station. Of course, I have enjoyed building my own station over the years, located in Maunawili, Oahu. I boast being married to a very understanding, pro-radiosport wife, and have our young twin boys dabbling in CW.
A profound “Mahalo” to all involved in the planning and execution of WRTC2014. It is a privilege to be selected as Mike’s teammate for this venue and I look forward to the keen competition.
