I started in Amateur Radio at the age of 10 and started contesting when I was 14. It became obvious that contesters were different from other hams. I started operating at the KL7Y Multi-Multi while in high school, and working as much DX as possible instead of studying like I probably should have! I have been lucky enough to operate at many big stations in the US, including regular visits to K3LR and NK7U. As an “op for hire” I have to get my radio fix in short bursts on the weekends during contests. This has worked out well, but it is time to start looking at getting some permanent antennas up at home. Over the years many contesters have proven to not only be my radio Elmers, but also mentors in all aspects of life and that is something that is very special.
Having the best contesters in the world all in one place is really something! In a sport that is solely based on peer recognition, this is a great opportunity to meet all of the big players.
