Country: Russia
Age: 47
Occupation: Commercial Director, RF Engineer, Amateur Radio company
I was 15 years old when I read a special invitation from youth radio station UK1AFA to study ham radio in my school. I started together with Andrey RV1AW. On the air since 1981 as operator of UK1AFA (now RZ1AWO) with Boris UA1AAF as a chief and trustee (1981-1991). Since 1991 – one of the active operators (and now chief operator) of RZ1AWT, better known as RU1A Contest Club. First call was UA1AKC, then RW1AC. Changed call to RW1A in 2012.
After WRTC 1996 I visited and operated from ON4UN in the CQ WW DX CW 1996 Contest together with RA3AUU, RV1AW, and UT4UZ (now VE3DZ). John’s location impressed me so much that I convinced RU1A members to start building a new station in a remote location some 200 km away from St. Petersburg. In just a few years we realized many antenna projects including a 3-element full size rotary Yagi for 80 m, 4-element Yagi for 40m with 24m boom length, 4 by 5-ele for 20m, 4 by 4-ele for 15m, and 4 by 5-ele for 10m… With this, RU1A set a EU record in the CQ WW DX CW in 2000 that lasted for 10 years!
Besides maintaining RU1A Contest station, I like to design and realize new antenna projects for myself and for other big gun stations in Russia. I graduated from St. Petersburg Communications Institute in 1988 with Bs. of Science in RF Engineering.
I am supported by my wife Olga and my daughters Masha and Varya. We like travelling to the other countries. I also enjoy reading books and watching movies.
I have competed in four WRTCs: 1996, 2000, 2002 and 2010. WRTC champion in 2010 as a team with RA1AIP (now RA1A).
