I was born in Brest in northwest France, and I have three brothers. I began amateur radio in 1999 with the call sign F4DBF (CEPT class B) and discovered 6 meters and 2 meters. I learned CW and obtained the CEPT class A with my current call sign, F8DBF, in 2002. I remained very active on VHF bands up to 23cm and make some HF QSOs. I am a member of the F6KHM radio club (contest call TM6M). We participated in some EME contests with a homemade 10 meter dish and since 2006 in all major HF events (WW, ARRL, WPX). The continual improvement of the station, with Xavier, F5TTU, as the main driver, resulted in the best ranking and often first place Europe. We are also sure that the location in Western Europe and the good take off to NA helps us very much. I also have my own station, QRV from 160 meters to 23cm and like to work DX on CW (preferred mode), SSB or RTTY.
I discovered WRTC in 2010 during the IARU HF contest and looked for this special event. My long-time radio friend Oliver, F1AKK, and I told ourselves “Why not in 2014?” We often compete in the multi-operator category and we did some single operator efforts to improve our ranking. It will be a fantastic experience and we will do our best during the event. It will be my first trip to the US and will be nice to visit Boston and maybe New York.
